ECO & SCO Payouts Now Available for Montana & Northern Plains Farmers
Just released: Final 2024 county yields are in, and ECO/SCO insurance payouts are coming for Montana and Northern Plains farmers. Check your potential payments before official notices arrive.
Don't Wait for Your Payment Notice—Take Action Now
Why wait for your AIP notices when you can verify your payouts today? Taking control of your insurance information means better planning for critical early-season expenses and improved cash flow management.
For agents, this proactive approach builds trust and demonstrates your value to clients during a crucial financial period.
The Power of Proactive Communication
"Like any good agent, I was refreshing the AIB like it was game day. As soon as the numbers dropped, I personally called every client with ECO/SCO to tell them: 'You've got a payment coming.'"
Mid-May is a critical time for farm finances when input costs, fuel expenses, and hail insurance premiums all compete for limited funds. Knowing about incoming payments now can make all the difference.
Check Your ECO/SCO Payouts: Step-by-Step Guide
Visit RMA Actuarial Information Browser
Go to the RMA Actuarial Information Browser (AIB) to access the latest county yield data.
Make Your Selections
Choose Reinsurance Year: 2024, Commodity: Wheat, Plan: Revenue Protection (or Yield Protection), and your State/County (e.g., MT/Cascade).
Find ECO/SCO Yield Section
Locate the Expected Yield (e.g., 53 bu/acre) and Final Area Yield (e.g., 56.6 bu/acre) in the ECO/SCO section.
Understanding the Revenue Adjustment Math
Calculate Price Drop
Projected Price: $7.38
Harvest Price: $5.45
Price Drop: 26.2%
Adjust Final Yield
Final Yield: 56.6 bu/acre
Revenue-Adjusted Yield = 56.6 × (1 – 0.262) = 41.78 bu/acre
Find Percent of Expected
41.78 ÷ 53 = 78.8% of expected yield
What This Means for Your Payout
ECO (Enhanced Coverage Option)
Covers from 95% down to 86% of expected revenue. With our example at 78.8% of expected yield, you'll receive a full ECO payout for the entire 9% band.
SCO (Supplemental Coverage Option)
Covers from 86% down to your underlying policy level:
  • 80% policy → full 6% SCO payout
  • 70% policy → partial SCO payout (86% to 78.8%)
Action Step: Check your 2024 Summary of Coverage document for your exact coverage bands and potential payment amounts.
Pro Tips for Agents & Farmers
Keep It General
Avoid quoting exact dollar amounts – Federal Crop uses a formal formula that may differ slightly from your calculations.
Get Precise When Needed
For detailed estimates, use online tools, spreadsheets, or calculators designed specifically for crop insurance payouts.
Be Proactive
Agents: Do this math before clients ask. Farmers: If you haven't heard from your agent, run the numbers yourself—or find an agent who will.
What Happens Next
